Click on image to view dimensions in AutoCAD (scale 1:1) The e-Traction® SM350 motor is meant to be connected with two homokinetic couplings and a shaft directly adjacent to a wheel. Two motors, complete with the very same electronic management of the TheWheel™ product line, mounted back to back together form what could be best described as an electric differential and will be installed in two different SUV’s. Alternatively, the units can also mated to simply double the performance on a single driveshaft. Despite the motors being outside the wheel virtually the same efficiency benefits can be obtained. Not being restricted to the size of the wheel these motors can be sized to provide the required torque. The “electric differential” setup also allows for minimally invasive alterations in the suspension and braking mechanisms of the vehicles. When desired, and when space available, these motors can be stacked, with two joint motors facing each direction, effectively doubling the performance.
Suited for SUV type or smaller vehicles. Its maximum RPM at a comparable voltage is significantly higher than the SM500 or SM700 thus making it ideal for personal transportation. If the width of the vehicle does not permit a side by side installation of two systems, it is possible to mount one in the front and one in the back with each unit having a side mounted differential as shown below. A SM350/1AL unit has replaced the original generator of the Whisper™ 1 in a completely reconfigured Auxiliary Power unit. Its use permitted the production of variable VDC power with a variable diesel motor speed. The e-Traction® Energy Management System and the Adaptive Current Control Unit (ACCU) combined ensure that the power supply and demand are optimally matched.
Performance Comparison of
the Product Range: Five wheel hub direct drive units have been designed and three have thus far been extensively tested in both aluminum and steel versions: they are the SM500/1, SM500/2 and SM700/3.
